District improves on tests

NORTH BLOOMFIELD — The Bloomfield-Mespo Local School District showed significant growth on the 2025-26 state report card, earning the largest year-to-year improvement in overall rating among Trumbull County school districts. The district’s overall rating increased from 2.5 stars in 2024-25 to 4 stars in 2025-26. Mike D’Orio received his draft notice while a freshman at Youngstown State University, but he opted to enlist in the U.S. Army. After graduating from Leavittsburg High School, D’Orio was among the first 800 people hired at GM Lordstown. After graduation from Warren Business College, he enrolled at YSU, and his draft letter arrived in 1966, soon after he began his freshman year. Man, pet die following Weathersfield fire

WEATHERSFIELD — Township fire Chief Tom Lambert confirmed one person and his pet died in a Friday morning fire at a mobile home park. Lambert said the first call for the fire came in as an explosion at Deforest Road, and both Howland and Weathersfield were dispatched because the road is shared, with Howland firefighters reporting it was in Weathersfield once they arrived.
