Police report woman overdosed with her baby in next room

WARREN — A woman is charged with endangering children after she was revived by city police officers with a dose of Narcan early Thursday inside a home in the 1900 block of Thomas Road SE. Officers found a six-week-old boy in a car seat on the floor in the kitchen.

Officers responded to the overdose call at the address about 12:15 a.m. They found the 30-year-old woman unconscious on the couch in the living room. A man inside the home told officers unknown people fled from the home when he called 911.

The woman, with an Ashtabula County address, was turning blue in the face and was unresponsive. While waiting for an ambulance, officers administered one dose of Narcan to her. Narcan is a substance used to reverse the effects of opioids.

Officers found the six-week-old boy in a car seat that was on the floor in an adjoining kitchen, the report states. The man told officers the child belonged to the woman, who woke up while being treated by medics.

Alicia J. Beckwith, 30, of 6068 Institute Road, Rome Township, was taken to St. Joseph Warren Hospital where she was checked out before being taken to the Trumbull County jail at 2:45 a.m., the report states.

Trumbull County Children Services was called to care for the baby, who was put into the custody of his maternal grandmother, the report states.

Beckwith told officers that her purse was stolen, the report states, saying it should have been next to where officers found her unconscious. Before leaving the Thomas Road home, officers could not find the purse, which the report states contained $160 in cash, credit and debit plus identification cards.

Beckwith was arraigned later Thursday before Warren Municipal Judge Thomas Gysegem on the charge of endangering children. Gysegem ordered the woman held without bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for July 1 before Judge Terry Ivanchak.

The police report states Beckwith was also held on a warrant from a Geauga County court.

Starting at $3.23/week.
