Tues. Noon: Trumbull County killer sentenced in two courtrooms

WARREN – Convicted killer Austin Burke will serve 58 years in prison after he was sentenced this morning on multiple counts in two separate Trumbull County Common Pleas Courtrooms.

Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Logan sentenced Burke, 19, of Bristolville to serve 47 years for the aggravated murder of Brandon Sample and the armed robbery of Pizza Joe’s restaurant in Cortland, which occurred in June 2017.

After that sentencing, Burke, who appeared in handcuffs and shackles, was then marched down the hall to the courtroom of Judge Ron Rice, who sentenced Burke to another 11 years in prison on a separate charge of possessing a deadly weapon while under detention. That charge stemmed from a shank being found in Trumbull County Jail where Burke was being held while awaiting trial on the murder and robbery charges.

The sentences will be served consecutively.

Three family members of victim Brandon Sample spoke during the sentencing hearing this morning.
