New cases of COVID-19 in the Mahoning Valley continue to rise. Cases increased Saturday by 44 in Trumbull County, 35 in Mahoning County and by 10 in Columbiana County. The state saw an increase of 2,317 cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health. In Trumbull County, the ZIP code area with the highest rate of infection over the last two weeks is the 44402 area in Bristolville, which had 10 cases. Governor urges people to get inoculations

Stressing the importance of getting a COVID-19 vaccine, Gov. Mike DeWine said 98.4 percent of those hospitalized with the virus in Ohio since Jan. 1 were unvaccinated. “We live in a state with two groups of people: those who are vaccinated who are safe and those who are not vaccinated and are not safe,” DeWine said Friday during his first COVID-19 news conference in about six weeks. State’s cases jump fivefold in 3 weeks

The number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio has increased by almost five times in just three weeks. The Ohio Department of Health reported Thursday 125.1 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 state residents for July 22 to Wednesday. The state was at 27 cases per 100,000 residents just three weeks ago. Last week, Ohio was at 77.4 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents and at 45.8 two weeks ago. The 125.1 cases per 100,000 is the highest for Ohio in four months.
