New cases of COVID-19 in the Mahoning Valley continue to rise.
Cases increased Saturday by 44 in Trumbull County, 35 in Mahoning County and by 10 in Columbiana County.
The state saw an increase of 2,317 cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
In Trumbull County, the ZIP code area with the highest rate of infection over the last two weeks is the 44402 area in Bristolville, which had 10 cases. There, the case rate based on population is 309.8. The Howland ZIP code of 44484 has the second-highest rate, at 215.6, and the east Warren ZIP code 44483 comes in third with a rate of 197.3, according to ODH numbers.
When it comes to case totals over the past two weeks, the 44483 ZIP code comes in first with 49 cases, 44484 still comes in second with 47 cases and the Niles ZIP code 44446 comes in third with 19 cases. The 44410 ZIP code in Cortland and the surrounding area saw 16 cases, western Warren in the 44485 area had 15 cases and the 44420 ZIP code in the Girard area saw 14 cases.
In Mahoning County, the ZIP code with the highest rate of infection, based on population, is the 44454 area in Petersburg with a rate of 509.2, the second highest in 44442 in New Middletown at 330.1 and the third highest in 44672 in Sebring at 189.6.
The 44512 ZIP code in Boardman has the highest case totals over the past two weeks with 36. The 44406 ZIP code in Canfield has the second-highest case count with 30, and the 44514 ZIP code in Poland comes in third with 27 cases. In 44515 in Austintown, there have been 26 cases, and there were 19 cases in the 44471 ZIP code in Struthers.
Statewide, the percentage of COVID-19 tests that were positive on Thursday was 7.5, more than a percentage point higher than the moving seven-day average of 6.3 percent.
In Trumbull County, the positivity rate, when last calculated by the state on July 27, was 3.5 percent. The rate was 3.1 percent in Mahoning County and 4.4 percent in Columbiana County.
