State clocks record-high COVID-19 rates

The number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 Ohioans is at an all-time high, having increased for six straight weeks with no signs of letting up. The 783.2 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents for the period between Dec. 2 and Wednesday is up from 718.5 cases per 100,000 last week, according to Ohio Department of Health data reported Thursday. Cases spike at Boardman nursing home

The Greenbriar Center Nursing Home on South Avenue in Boardman, which had four active patient cases of COVID-19 last week and five active staff cases, saw its numbers rise to 15 patient cases and six staff cases this week. It was the only area nursing home to see a significant jump in cases this week, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health. About 20 other Mahoning County facilities are listed as having current cases, but they each have a relatively small number, and it is unknown whether those numbers are up to date. Reporting errors again undercount COVID-19 cases

Oops, they did it again. The Ohio Department of Health admitted “manual reporting errors at two laboratories” resulted in the undercount of 7,699 COVID-19 cases in the state between March 7 and Dec. 3. “The backlog includes both new cases and updated information for cases that were previously recorded,” Alicia Shoults, an ODH spokeswoman, said Tuesday. “The files are being processed and will be assigned the appropriate illness onset date.” As the backlogged cases are processed, they’re being added to the daily COVID-19 count for the state for Tuesday, today and ...
