Women’s History Month events

Women’s History Month is in March. Various events in the Mahoning Valley are planned to celebrate the works and achievements of women. • March 1-31 During Women’s History Month, the Struthers Library, 95 Poland Ave., will hold “Women’s History Month Dress Up and Learn. Costumes of influential women throughout history will be available. Children can dress up and have a picture taken. Honorable mention for YSU student in international contest

Youngstown State University student Jacob Norton recently earned an honorable mention in the International Trombone Association’s Alto Trombone Competition, placing him among some of the most accomplished young trombonists in the world. Norton, a third‑year trombone performance major in the Dana School of Music, was part of an international division with musicians 25 and under. Jewish Community Center to host Purim Carnival

PURIM CARNIVAL: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will hold a Purim Carnival from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at 505 Gypsy Lane. Carnival games and food will be from noon to 2 p.m. The costume contest will be at 2:15 p.m. Admission is free. Game play is unlimited with a $10 wristband. Food is available for purchase. I’m probably going to jinx us with this talk about the signs of spring, but I’m going to be brave and forge ahead. I’m beginning to see signs of spring everywhere, and one of my weird favorites is the stink bug. Howland bands to play concert

BAND-O-RAMA: The Howland Tiger Band will host a Band-O-Rama Unleash the Roar at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Howland High School gymnasium. Every band from grades 5-12 will participate, including a Caribbean ensemble, jazz band, pep band, drum line and grand finale with all students participating.
