Seeing eye: McKinley Memorial Library plans Kids Club event
KIDS CLUB: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host Kids Club: Floating and Sinking at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Memorial Home for children ages 5 to 11. There will be STEAM activities. This week, students will make hypotheses on whether certain items will float or sink. Registration is required at 330-652-1704 ext. 4.
CRIBS FOR KIDS: The Warren City Health District will provide a Cribs for Kids class at 2 p.m. today at the Warren City Health District, 258 E. Market St., Warren.

COMMUNITY PROGRAM: The Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP), 611 Main Ave. NW, Warren, will host a utility bill assistance for the winter crisis program, which ends Tuesday. All applications must be received by Tuesday for assistance. The program helps income eligible homes avoid utility disconnection. Any and all return information must be received by April 15 or no assistance will be received. Calls are accepted on Wednesday and are the same day appointment at 330-399-2507 ext. 225.
UPTON ASSOCIATION: The Upton Association celebrates America250 with a program about Ohio suffragist Frances Jennings Casement for their First Wednesday speaker series at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Casement was from Painesville in Lake County. Her husband John was a Civil War general and was instrumental in the building of the transcontinental railroad. Because of her activism in the women’s suffrage movement, Frances Casement was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2001. Alexandra Lausin, executive director of the International Women’s Air & Space Museum in Cleveland, will portray Casement. The program will be at the Harriet Taylor Upton House at 380 Mahoning Avenue NW in Warren. Refreshments will be available beginning 30 minutes prior to the program.
HUNGER CAMPAIGN: Second Harvest Food Book of the Mahoning Valley is hosting its 34th annual Harvest for Hunger campaign, which spans throughout the months of April and May with the goal of helping the food bank restock its shelves for the spring and summer months. Those looking to get involved in the campaign can mail a check or money order to Second Harvest Food Bank at 2805 Salt Springs Road, Youngstown, OH 44509. For every $1 given, the food bank can distribute $10 worth of food or the equivalent to five meals. Additionally, folks can donate through Giant Eagle’s Check Out Hunger effort, which is a cashier-led initiative that gives customers the opportunity to donate $2, $5, $10 or any other preferred amount at the register through May 31. Last year’s Harvest for Hunger campaign raised more than $351,000 and collected nearly 14,000 pounds of food, which provided more than 1.7 million meals in the Valley.
SCHOLARSHIP OFFERED: Warren City Federation of Women’s Clubs is seeking applicants for a $750 scholarship to be awarded in April. The scholarship is designed to assist a Trumbull County woman in furthering her education in an accredited educational program. The applicant must be 24 or older and a resident of Trumbull County. The applicant must submit a written narrative describing her career goals and her plan to achieve those goals, including any financial hardship she may be facing, and how she will benefit from the scholarship.

These members will be celebrated Aug. 15, during a banquet at Enzo’s Banquet Center. Doors open at 5 p.m.
