Church service to recognize veterans

CHURCH VETERANS DAY: A Veterans Day Songs and Prayers for Peace service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St Paul Lutheran Church, 2860 E. Market St., Warren. The service will begin with a flag procession by the Boy Scouts of America. The event will be an opportunity to recognize our veterans, their service and sacrifice, and a prayer for peace in the evening as an alternative for those who cannot attend an event in the morning.
FIRST CHRISTMAS: The Howland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the township administration building. There will be a program by Belinda Weiss, historian and director of the National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum in Niles, who will discuss the first year Christmas was celebrated on a grand scale under the reign of Henry VIII in 1509. There will be refreshments.
CALENDAR PARTY: The Friends of the Girard Free Library will host a calendar party noon to 2 p.m. Saturday in the community room of the library. Tickets are $10, which includes a meal, table and door prize drawings and gift basket raffle. Tickets are available at the circulation desk. Proceeds from the event will help purchase items for the children’s reading room.
HONOR VETERANS: The Trumbull Career and Technical Center, 528 Educational Highway, Cortland, is honoring veterans this week. Today through Friday, students in the auto collision technology program will offer free exterior detailing services for veterans’ vehicles. Services include washing, waxing and polishing. LIFESKILLS PROGRAM: The McKInley Memorial Library in Niles will host “Lifeskills 101: So You Need a New Computer” at 6 p.m. Thursday. Learn the signs of an aging computer and the device options, terminology and features to help you choose a new computer. The program will be at the McKinley Birthplace Home. CHRISTMAS SALE: The Harriet Taylor Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, will host its last Christmas sale Thursday to Saturday. The sale is organized by the Harriet Taylor Upton Association. There will be various holiday items.
FESTIVAL OF TREES: The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial Museum in Niles invites organizations and individuals to participate in the annual Festival of Trees. The festival has been able to grow each year with more decorated trees. For information, call Belinda Weiss at 330-652-4273.
CHURCH FUNDRAISER: The Howland Community Church is hosting a pie sale. The sale includes a variety of pies in partnership with Gardener Pie Company. Proceeds will be used for ongoing missions and ministries of the church. Orders are being taken at howlandcommunitychurch.org or 330-856-3628. Pick ups will be 4 to 6 p.m, Nov. 19.
OSTOMY GROUP MEETING: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group meets 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Tibbetts Wick Homecare office, 979 Tibbetts-Wick Road, Suite A, Girard. Parking is free and refreshments will be served.
