Seeing Eye: Marine Corps reunion set for Aug. 16

MARINE CORPS REUNION: The Tri-State Detachment Marine Corps League will host its 45th annual Marine Corps League reunion 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 16 at A La Cart Catering, 429 Lisbon St., Canfield. The reunion also will celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

The event is open to all Marines, their families and all service members who served with or were attached to Marine Corps units. Cost is $35 and includes a buffet-style dinner and an open bar. A special guest speaker from Headquarters Marine Corps will give a short presentation on current issues impacting the Marine Corps along with upcoming changes to the active Marine Corps units attached to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna. BRISTOL SUMMERFEST: The Bristolville Summerfest will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the former Bristol firehouse in the town center, 1864 Greenville Road.

The event will include a car show, craft show, farmers market and antiques. Vehicle registration is 10 a.m. to noon.

The event is being held in memory of Richard Adams with partial proceeds to benefit the ALS Foundation.

CLUB HOLDS COOKOFF: The Champion Athletic Club will host its third annual rib cook-off and bonfire 3 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Champion Little Flashes football field, corner of Alva Avenue and Route 305. There will be vendors, carnival games, a dunk tank and bounce houses. The public can meet the Little Flashes teams. Cost for the rib cook-off and sampling of entries is $22.

BACKPACKS FOR SCHOOL: Warren Family Mission will give away 400 backpacks filled with school supplies beginning at 1 p.m. today, while supplies last, at 155 Tod Ave NW, Warren. Registration begins at noon.

Bring the following items: parent / guardian photo ID, children’s birth certificates and medical cards.

INDIAN CAMPFIRE: The Moss Ancestral Home, 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will have an Indian Campfire at 8 p.m. Saturday. Bill Moss will portray Wowaton as he uses Indian artifacts to entertain. Bring a chair. The Moss Ancestral Home will be open for tours from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Moss Ancestral Home and Mineral Ridge Historical Society, 1499 and 1476 Burnett St., will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

OSTOMY SUPPORT: The Youngstown Area Ostomy Support Group will meet from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St., in the Woodland Room.

The group offers education, encouragement and support to anyone whose life is affected by an ostomy. Refreshments will be served.
