Seeing Eye: Elvis display lives on in Newton Falls
ELVIS DISPLAY IN NEWTON FALLS: In honor of Elvis Presley week starting today in Memphis, Tennessee, the Newton Falls Public Library has an Elvis exhibit featuring books, magazines, news articles, personal photos, records and memorabilia of the singer, who died Aug. 16, 1977.
All items are from the collections of Newton Falls residents Lonnie Wolfe, Steve DeBolt and Mike Babyack. Wolfe served in the Army with Elvis, DeBolt appeared in a movie about Elvis and Babyack has been a longtime fan of the “King of Rock and Roll.” The exhibit runs through Aug. 31.
YOUTH DAY: Grace AME Church, 1137 Main Ave. SW, Warren, will host “Celebration of Youth Day” noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the church. The event will consist of free food, bicycle and iPad drawings, free health screenings and haircuts. More than 1,500 youth were served last year. Grace AME and its community partners are looking forward to making a difference this year as well.
BINGO NIGHT: The Girard Free Library will host family bingo 2 p.m. today at the library. The library will provide everything to play. The event is for all ages.
TRANSPORTATION TALK: Active Transportation Ambassador Fellowship will host an open house and bike ride 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Cadence Coffeehouse and Creperie, 31 N. Main St., Niles. The event will explain the newly launched program focused on growing grassroots leadership to support safer streets in Trumbull County.
LIBERTY ALUMNI: The Liberty Leopards Alumni Association will host a “Decade of the ’80s Reunion” 3 p.m. to dusk Aug. 30 at Churchill Park in Liberty. Graduates from the classes of 1980 to 1989 are invited. The event will have a 1980s theme. For more information, email libertyleopardsalumni.com.
SOUND BATH: Unity Spiritual Center, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a sound bath at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Maria and Calvin Wagner of the Center for Sound Therapy in Boardman will conduct the event. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A love offering of $20 is suggested. Call 330-539-0122 for info.
CAMP KID AGAIN: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown is offering “Camp Kid Again,” a day camp for adults, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday to Friday. “Camp Kid Again” is for adults who are kids at heart. Participants will enjoy daily art activities, exercise and movement, cooking demonstrations and more. Lunch is included.
The cost for one day is $25 for JCC members and $30 for nonmembers. The cost for the full week is $80 for JCC members and $100 for nonmembers. A limited number of one-day scholarships are available. Visit jccyoungstown.org to learn more or to register.
TIPS FOR A CAUSE: The Warren Masonic Lodge Old Erie #3, in collaboration with Modern Methods Brewery’s Darlene Lounge and Cousins Maine Lobster food truck, will host “Tips for a Cause” charity event Wednesday to raise funds for Old Erie’s upcoming 225th anniversary.
The Cousins Maine Lobster truck will be stationed in front of the Darlene Lounge starting at 5 p.m., with the Tips for a Cause event kicking off shortly afterward.
