Overcoming the stigma of overdoses
OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY: Overdose Awareness Day brings a community together to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends. Last year, a collaboration with the Trumbull County Mental Health and Recovery Board and its Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention coalition set up 25 locations throughout the county and distributed more than 1,500 naloxone (drug overdose medication) kits. Some of the locations distributed hygiene kits, socks, water and snacks, and all locations distributed information on signs / symptoms of an overdose and treatment facilities in Trumbull County.
On Saturday, ASAP and its member organizations will distribute free naloxone kits at various locations throughout Trumbull County, including: Barnes Temple COGIC, 2618 Niles Road SE, Warren; Cadence Coffee House, 31 N. Main St., Niles; CBS Barbershop, 770 Highland Ave. SW, Warren; Cortland Police Department, 400 N. High St., Cortland; Eastwood Mall in Niles, Embrace Connection Counseling, 120 Windsor Drive, Cortland; First Presbyterian Church, 256 Mahoning Ave., Warren; Flying HIGH, 237 Main Ave. SW, Warren; Focus Building, 2051 Niles Road SE, Warren; Hot Dog Shoppe, 740 W.
