Mount Carmel Fest kicks off Saturday

MUSIC AND MORE: The Girard Mount Carmel Festival will be Saturday to Wednesday at the Italian Fraternal Home, 33 W. Wilson Ave. There will be food, games, bingo and musical entertainment.

Cin City and the Saints will play 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday; Blue Collar Band, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday; Ovation, 8 to 11 p.m. Sunday; Common Ground, 8 to 11 p.m. Monday; and Dead Flowers, 8 to 11 p.m. Tuesday. The parade is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by Mass at St. Rose Church at 11 a.m. The Girard Community Band will play 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and the Blue Coat Band will play 8 to 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by fireworks at 11 p.m.

There will be carnival games, bounce houses, concessions and more.

SMOKE DETECTOR PROGRAM: The Bristol Fire Department will host a smoke detector distribution program made possible with cooperation from the American Red Cross. Bristol residents needing smoke detectors are asked to contact the fire department; staff can install the smoke detectors. It is recommended to have one smoke detector for each floor of a house.

ENVIRONMENTAL TALKS: After a launch in Lake and Cuyahoga counties, the Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition continues its groundbreaking Reimagining Community Conversations series — a first-of-its-kind regional effort federally funded by the NOAA Climate Resilience Regional Challenge Grant.

Conversations reflect the growing environmental challenges impacting communities across Northeast Ohio. Upcoming events include 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Newport Library on Market Street in Youngstown and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the Raymond John Wean Foundation in downtown Warren.

MEDITATION PROGRAM: A new weekly class, “Meditation: The Key to the Kingdom,” will be offered at 6 p.m. Mondays at Unity Spiritual Centre, 122 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty. The class will include 30 minutes of meditation and a 30-minute discussion. The class is free, but love offerings will be accepted. Call 330-539-0122 for information.
