Kids get backpacks at Community Day
EVENT SET IN MECCA: The fifth annual Mecca Community Day will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the township park, state Route 46 south of the township center. There will be a backpack giveaway sponsored by Mecca Community Church, with children needing to be present. There also will be craft vendors, food, games, music with Danny G and bounce houses.
RESOURCE FAIR: Trumbull County Adult Probation will host a Community Resource Fair 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at North Park Commons, 347 North Park Ave., Warren. Featured will be 24 agencies offering information on treatment, counseling, housing and employment resources. Representatives from the Warren City Health Department’s Mobile Health Unit, the Veterans Service Commission, the Mental Health & Recovery Board and the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office will be present. There will be a raffle for prizes, snacks and a dunk tank.
MCDONALD SAFETY DAY: The village fire and police departments will host a safety day for local children 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Park. There will be various safety vehicles displayed and a police dog demonstration.
FUNDRAISER: The Emmanuel Community Care Center, North State Street, Girard, will host a breakfast fundraiser and basket raffle 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the raffle are $10 each and the winners do not need to be present. The center is also planning its school supply giveaway for Aug. 12 for children in grades K-12. CAMPOUT: The JCC of Youngstown is hosting a family campout 8 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at its Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way. Participants will enjoy s’mores on a campfire and a movie. The outdoor pool will be open for swimming until 11 p.m. Participants should bring their own tent and sleeping bag. They can also bring hot dogs and other food to cook over the fire.
