Seeing Eye: Niles McKinley Distinguished Hall of Fame seeks nominees
NILES ALUMNI SEEK NOMINATIONS: Applications for nominees for the Niles McKinley Distinguished Hall of Fame for 2025 may be submitted to Joyce Mahan at 1059 Griffin St., Niles no later than June 1. Applications may be found on the Niles City Schools website. At the alumni high school football game Aug. 21 against Howland, the new inductees will be announced. The alumni banquet is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Ciminero’s Banquet Centre .
COOKING DISCUSSION: A cookbook club will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. Cookbook fans are invited to discuss a new cookbook or theme on the second Wednesday of the month. This month’s participants will read “The Mediterranean Dish” by Suzy Karadsheh. Stop by the reference desk to learn about upcoming cookbooks or view the list of future books from all book clubs on the library’s website.
INTRO TO DISC GOLF: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will offer Introduction to Disc Golf at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Stevens Park in Niles. Participants will learn the basics of disc golf and why it is so popular. Don Eckrote of Don’s Disc Golf Shop, Brad Silvers of Turbo Putt and Luke Shelton of Pure Flight will discuss the sport and show off the new course at Stevens Park. Participants should meet by the soccer fields. If inclement weather occurs, the program will be canceled with no rain date.
GIRARD LIBRARY EVENTS: The Girard Free Library will offer Cozy Crafters 6 p.m. today for anyone who knits, crochets or embroiders. Bring your current project and join a group of needle wielders. Share tips while also working on current projects
NEW LOCATION: The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County has a new location for its Menagerie store at 6000 Youngstown Warren Road in Niles. The store has a variety of new and used items. All of the merchandise is donated and store proceeds support the operation and mission of the Animal Welfare League and directly benefit the shelter animals.
TCGS TO MEET: The next meeting of the Trumbull County Genealogical Society will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Howland branch of the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 9095 E. Market St., Warren, which is a new location..
Theresa Brown, head of the Mayflower Group, along with other associates, will explain how to join the Mayflower Society and how to read the Mayflower Books in the Local History and Genealogy Center. All meetings are free and open to the public.

PARTICIPANTS SOUGHT FOR PARADE: Anyone interested in participating in the 2025 Trumbull County Memorial Day Parade needs to fill out a registration form by May 21.
The parade is May 26 and will begin immediately following the Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Warren. The parade lineup is at Perkins Park and begins at 10 a.m. The parade steps off at noon.
Political candidates are not permitted to distribute materials, but are allowed to have a sign with their name and office they seek. Units must be decorated with a patriotic theme and no candy is allowed to be thrown.

MONDAY NIGHT WRITERS: The next meeting of Monday Night Writers will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. May 19 at Leana’s Books & More, 4317 Kirk Road, Youngstown. Area writers, both published and unpublished, are invited to attend.
Led by author Nancy Christie, the meetings offer an opportunity for members to get group feedback on works-in-progress.
