PARISH REOPENS: Four months after a fire, Blessed Sacrament Parish in Warren will reopen its church for 8:30 a.m. Mass Sunday with Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown as principal celebrant and homilist. Fire damaged the church Dec. 12, 2021. Damage was limited to the ambo (pulpit), Advent wreath and surrounding area, however, smoke damage was extensive. The four-month restoration project included replacing the charred area, cleaning and painting the entire interior, including the 60-foot tower, cleaning the organ, replacing acoustic panels, and cleaning all contents. The congregation met for the past four months at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Warren.

BLESSING OF EASTER FOOD: St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., Youngstown, will host a Blessing of Easter Food at 3 p.m. today. SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 180 Belvedere Ave. NE, Warren, will host a Blessing of Easter food in the social hall at 8 p.m. today and 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday. St. Michael Byzantine Church, 463 Robinson Ave., Campbell, will have a Blessing of Easter baskets at 5 p.m. today.

OUTDOOR SERVICES: An outdoor Easter sunrise service will be 7:30 a.m. Sunday at the Newton Falls city park pavilion. The service will be led by First Baptist Church. Individuals may take lawn chairs.

• An Easter sunrise Girard community service will be 7 a.m. Sunday at the Tod Park pavilion. Clergy will be from the Girard Ministerial Association.

• First Presbyterian Church of Warren, 256 Mahoning Ave., will have an outdoor Easter sunrise service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and a traditional service at 10 a.m. Sunday.

EGG HUNTS: Grace AME Church, 1137 Main St. SW, Warren, will host and Easter egg hunt at noon today for children 3 to 12. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

• Central Christian Church, 2051 E. Market St., Warren, will host an Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m. today.

• Niles First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, 33 Arlington Ave., Niles, will host an Easter egg hunt at 9 a.m. Sunday.

• Life Church in Leavittsburg will host a community egg hunt 11 a.m. today at the Leavittsburg football fields on West Market Street. The event is for toddlers to fifth-graders with registration at 10:30 a.m.

• Central Baptist Church, 1301 North Road, Niles, will host an Easter celebration 1 to 3 p.m. today with an egg hunt for children age 12 and younger.

• Coalburg United Methodist Church will host a Easter egg hunt 10 a.m. today for children up to age 12 and an Easter worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

EASTER SERVICES: New Covenant Baptist Church, 1606 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown, will have an Easter service 7 a.m. Sunday.

• Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive, Youngstown, will host an Easter Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

• Harvest Point Church, 2121 Salt Springs Road, Lordstown, will conduct a sunrise service at 7:30 a.m. Sunday and a traditional Easter service at 10 a.m. Sunday.

INTERFAITH EVENT: The Niles Interfaith Committee will host a brunch 1 p.m. April 24 at Ciminero’s Banquet Center, Niles, where scholarships will be presented to local students. The event also will have a speaker. Tickets are $20 per person at any Niles church or by calling Georgeanne at 330-652-0034 or Jean at 330-652-7281. The event, which has been held for more than 50 years, was canceled since 2019 because of the pandemic.

Speaker is the Rev. Ron Blakeman, senior pastor of Mineral Ridge Church of Christ since 2014. Blakeman also serves as chaplain for the Weathersfield Fire Department.

HONORING BING NEWTON: Bing Newton, one of the founders of the annual Men’s Rally in the Valley, died recently. He will be remembered at this year’s event June 18 at the Covelli Centre in Youngstown. Memorial contributions can be made in Newton’s name to Men’s Rally in the Valley, 9520 Washingtonville Road, Canfield, OH 44406, which will help with costs at this year’s event.

UKRAINE FOOD FESTIVAL: SS. Mary and Joseph Parish in Warren will sponsor a Ukraine food festival 5 to 8 p.m. May 14 in the church social hall on Seneca Street NE. Local restaurateurs will be donating their time and talent to serve at stations set up around the hall. Admission tickets are $20 each for adults and $10 for children age 10 and under. FIREWORKS EVENT: St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St. NE, Warren, will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ with a fireworks display at 12:01 a.m. April 24 and lasting 10 to 12 minutes. The public is welcome to celebrate the service of the Resurrection with parishioners and enjoy the fireworks celebration, which will be visible in the entire downtown Warren area.

VICTIMS OF ABUSE: Bishop David Bonnar of the Diocese of Youngstown will preside over a Holy Hour with Benediction for victims of child abuse at 1 p.m. April 24 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and April 24 also is the Octave of Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, written by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to address child sexual abuse in the Church in the United States. The Diocese of Youngstown’s Safe Environment Policy continues to implement the charter through education and screening, including required background checks and safe environment training, compliance with regular audits and the obligation to report known or suspected child abuse or neglect to the proper civil authorities.

The diocese also maintains a confidential response line for victim’s assistance or to report abuse, call 330-718-1388.

HERE COMES THE SUN: Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren, will host a “Here Comes the Son” annual Beatles Mass 5 p.m. April 30. The event is a full liturgy with Eucharist. A chicken wing challenge will be at 6 p.m.
