Grace Fellowship Church finds new home
NILES — Grace Fellowship Church, which for the past 10 years has met in the Kohl’s plaza in the Eastwood Mall complex, has found a new location to call home at the former McMenamy’s Banquet Center in Niles.
Associate Pastor Zack Potter said while renovation and remodeling work takes place at the banquet center site, the members will be meeting Sunday mornings at the LaBrae School complex auditorium with worship at 9 and 11 a.m.
Potter said Easter Sunday was the last worship held at the plaza as plans for a store to be located there are underway. The first Sunday at the LaBrae location was April 28.
“The McMenamy’s building, when remodeled, will be our permanent location,” he said.
Potter said the church had a lease for the Eastwood Mall site and was appreciative of how generous the Cafaro family — who owns the mall complex — has been to the church over the past 10 years.
“They treated us like family but we want to have our own permanent location. God led us to this new location. When the renovations are done, that will be our site for generations to come,” he said.
Potter said the location in Niles will be ideal for reaching the community.
He said remodeling will take most of 2019, with plans to be in the new building in the early part of 2020. Weaver Construction is doing the work and BGW Architects is handling project design.
Church officials have said the church purchased the McMenamy’s building at 325 Youngstown Warren Road for $675,000. The McMenamy’s building for many years housed a banquet hall and restaurant and more recently was the site of Thrift Town Treasures.
Amelia Mack, communications director at Grace Fellowship Church, said the church is formulating a timeline now for construction and renovation that will happen later this year so the church can eventually make that a permanent home.
“We are excited to be near our current location at the Eastwood Mall, but also see the opportunity to serve the Niles community,” she said.
Fundraising has been held for the project.
The former plaza location will be where a Meijer’s store is expected to open in about two years.
