Young and unemployed? Remote work, not AI, may be the problem

WASHINGTON (AP) — The rise of remote work since the pandemic has made businesses more reluctant to hire young, inexperienced workers and is the key driver of higher unemployment rates for recent college graduates, a study released Monday has found. Jobs services issues weekly unemployment report

Staff report The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday that Ohioans filed 4,754 initial unemployment claims last week, which were 900 fewer than the previous week. Ohioans filed 40,552 continued unemployment claims last week, which was 711 more than the previous week. The total number of claims filed from May 17-23 was 45,306. Ohio’s unemployment rate in April was 3.9%. The national unemployment rate in April was 4.3%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in April was 61.9%. The national labor force participation rate in April was 61.8%.
