Finding solutions to the region's ongoing housing shortage will be addressed 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday during the Mahoning Valley Housing Summit.
The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber is host of the summit that brings together housing industry professionals, developers and community leaders at the Eastwood Event Centre in Niles.
Scott Meyer, vice president of government affairs for the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, will deliver the keynote address. The Cafaro Company is the event's Gold sponsor.
Meyer is expected to discuss Ohio and federal housing legislation, including the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, and ways local governments can become stronger partners in development, as well as funding opportunities, zoning, permitting and infrastructure.
"Housing affects our ability to attract and retain people, strengthen our workforce and grow our communities. This summit is about identifying practical ways to increase housing options in the Valley and bringing together the people who can help make that happen," said Brenda J. Linert, director of community impact at the Regional Chamber.
State Rep. David Thomas, R-Jefferson, will follow Meyer with a discussion of state efforts to address housing challenges, including housing legislation and the debate over property tax reform.
The summit also will feature presentations on emerging construction technologies, nano grid housing and 3D-printed walls. Speakers include Ethan Karp, president and CEO of MAGNET; Rob Struharik III, chief operating officer and owner of Master Plan Homes in North Lima; and Erik Liber, president and CEO of HSH Contractor in Lisbon. Liber will also lead a 3D-printing demonstration.
The event is intended for employers planning for workforce growth, residential developers, landowners, builders, investors, lenders, local government leaders, contractors and housing industry professionals. The summit will conclude with a networking reception, providing attendees time for one-on-one conversations.
Tickets are $35 for Regional Chamber members and $50 for nonmembers.
