SAFETY AWARD BESTOWED: The Anderson-DuBose Company was named the recipient of the 2026 Joan Kovach Safety Leadership Award during a ceremony May 6 at the Youngstown Country Club.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s Mahoning Valley Safety Council, in partnership with City Machine Technologies Inc., presented the honor. Named in memory of Joan Kovach, co-founder of City Machine Technologies, Inc., the award recognizes a company that demonstrates a strong commitment to workplace safety.

At Anderson-DuBose, safety is built into daily operations through active leadership, consistent communication and employee involvement. Each shift begins with a safety-focused meeting, while regular companywide meetings give employees and leadership opportunities to share updates, reinforce expectations and discuss workplace concerns.

The company supports employees through events, recognition programs, internal promotions and training programs, as well as a structured return-to-work process for those recovering from injury or medical leave.

“Each year, this award reminds us that strong safety cultures are built through consistent leadership, communication and care for employees,” said Claudia Kovach, vice president of City Machine Technologies. “Anderson-DuBose reflects those values in the way safety is woven into daily operations, from employee engagement to continued investment in safer systems. It is a meaningful way to honor my mother’s legacy, and we are proud to recognize Anderson-DuBose.”

This year’s finalist also included Iron City Wood Products, the largest family-owned pallet management and recycling facility in northeast Ohio. Owners Tina and DJ Yanssens, with their sons Tucker and Andrew, have created a safe and inclusive workplace in a typically hazardous industry, even overcoming language barriers through bilingual staffing.
