New car buyers flock to Chevrolet, Ford brands in August
Northern Ohio franchised dealers sold 18,957 new motor vehicles in August, a slight decrease compared to the same month last year.
Sales in the region were off by 0.79% last month according to figures released by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association, while year to date numbers remain ahead, beating 2024 by 7.09%.
“Northern Ohio August sales matched 2024, leaving the market at just over 7% ahead through 2025,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, the association’s president. “We have outpaced the nation to date, but feel that in the second half of the year — especially the last quarter — the pace will slow.
“Lower interest rates could carry sales higher through the third and fourth quarters if there is a change. All in all, we still anticipate single digit growth in new car sales through the end of the year.”
Chevrolet continues to top the region’s leaderboard, selling 2,678 new vehicles in August. Ford remains in second place with 2,132 new vehicle registrations in the month. Kia maintains the third spot with 1,761 sales, ahead of Honda’s 1,694. Toyota rounds out the Top 5 with 1,541 sales.
Boardman Subaru led the Mahoning Valley in new and used car sales for August with 225 vehicles sold. The number represented a drop of 60 vehicles from August 2024. The South Avenue dealership reported 143 new vehicles and 82 used vehicles had been purchased.
Ken Ganley Kia of Boardman posted 211 purchases in August, with 118 new and 93 used. Third in overall sales across the Valley was Greenwood Chevrolet with 194 (107 new, 87 used).
