‘Shark Is Broken’ auditions open

Youngstown Playhouse will have auditions for the play “The Shark Is Broken” in April.

Director Brendan Boyle is seeking three male-presenting actors to portray real life actors Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider in a comedy about the making of the first blockbuster — 1975’s “Jaws.”

The play by Ian Shaw (son of Robert Shaw) and Joseph Nixon is set aboard the Orca during the filming of “Jaws” and find its lead actors — theater veteran Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Dreyfuss and Scheider — crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows, egos collide and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic … if it doesn’t sink them all first.

Those auditioning should be prepared to read scenes from the play with other actors.

Auditions will be 6 to 9 p.m. April 6 and 7 at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. For a full character breakdown and to sign up for an audition slot, go to youngstownplayhouse.org/audition. All roles are open. Questions regarding auditions can be answered by emailing production stage manager Shawn Lockaton at renthedd525@aol.com.

“The Shark Is Broken” will open June 19 at The Playhouse Downtown, 220 W. Boardman St. Youngstown.

Starting at $3.23/week.
