Youngstown Playhouse will have auditions for the play "The Shark Is Broken" in April.
Director Brendan Boyle is seeking three male-presenting actors to portray real life actors Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider in a comedy about the making of the first blockbuster -- 1975's "Jaws."
The play by Ian Shaw (son of Robert Shaw) and Joseph Nixon is set aboard the Orca during the filming of "Jaws" and find its lead actors -- theater veteran Shaw and young Hollywood hotshots Dreyfuss and Scheider -- crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical co-star. Alcohol flows, egos collide and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic ... if it doesn't sink them all first.
Those auditioning should be prepared to read scenes from the play with other actors.
Auditions will be 6 to 9 p.m. April 6 and 7 at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. For a full character breakdown and to sign up for an audition slot, go to youngstownplayhouse.org/audition.
