YSU Jazz Combos will play Spotlight

Youngstown State University’s three Jazz Combos will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater.

Dave Kana’s Sextet will perform “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin, “Time After Time” by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn and “Equinox” by John Coltrane. Kent Engelhardt’s Quintet will perform “Bags’ Groove” by Milt Jackson, “Django” by John Lewis and “Soul Sauce (Guachi Guaro)” by Dizzy Gillespie and Chano Pozo.Glenn Schaft’s Quartet will perform “One, Two, Three” by Glenn Schaft, “It Never Entered My Mind” by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, and “Impressions” by John Coltrane.

Admission is free.

SPARK Storytellers will get ‘luck’-y

The next SPARK Storytellers event will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon.

Nine local storytellers will share tales about a time when “luck” played an important role in their lives.

Admission is $10 at the door. Admission to the SPARK (Storytelling to Promote Acceptance, Respect and Kindness) is $10 and payable at the door.

Upton House hosts Amish program

The Upton Association begins its America 250 “First Wednesday” series with Chester Kurtz speaking about the history of the Amish church.

Kurtz serves on the board of the Geauga Amish Historical Museum in Middlefield.

The Geauga-Trumbull Amish community is the fourth largest in the United States. Kurtz will give a history about how the Amish came to America and how they are dealing with modern-day innovations and technology.

The program starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Harriet Taylor Upton House, 380 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, with refreshment available starting at 9:30 a.m.

Admission is free.

TCHS workshop on preservation

The Trumbull County Historical Society will have a preservation workshop at 2 p.m. March 14 at the Museum of Science Fiction and Fantasy Arts building, 410 Main Ave. SW, Warren.

Attendees can bring family photos and documents and learn the art of preserving those heirlooms in a hands-on workshop with TCHS’s trained collections staff.

It will include information on cleaning techniques, how to properly store items, agents of deterioration and more.

The cost is $10 and advance registration is required.
