Playhouse Youth Theatre stages ‘Honk Jr.’
Playhouse Youth Theatre presents “Honk Jr.” for three performances at Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane.
The musical by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe is based on the story of “The Ugly Duckling” and is adapted for young performers as a heart-warming celebration of being different. Wayne Bonner III is the director.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m Sunday at the Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. Tickets range from $11 to $17 for adults and $6 to $12 for children ages 12 and younger and are available online at experienceyourarts.org and by calling 330-259-9651.
Gino Vannelli to play at Packard on May 10
Gino Vannelli will play Packard Music Hall on May 10. The Canadian singer is best known for such hits as “People Gotta Move,” “I Just Wanna Stop.” “Living Inside Myself” and “Wild Horses.”
Tickets for the 7 p.m. show start at $32.75 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster. An online-only presale runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today with the password: PACKARD.
Joanne Teets is TAG’s Artist of the Month
The work of Joanne Teets is on display at Trumbull Art Gallery, 158 N. Park Ave., Warren, as its Artist of the Month.
Teets’ artistic life began in high school, carried over into art school and eventually led to a 42-year career at a large midwest advertising agency. Her retirement has allowed her time to discover and experiment with new art mediums and styles.
The work will be on display through Feb. 28.
YSU celebrates Student Press Freedom Day
“Student Journalism: For the Present and the Future” will be the theme of Student Press Freedom Day at Youngstown State University.
The third annual Youngstown observance will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Lariccia Cultural Collaboration Room on the first floor of Jones Hall. It’s part of a national observance designed to raise awareness of student journalism, the challenges it faces and the contributions it makes to schools and communities.
Nicarlyle Hanchard, news editor of The Jambar student newspaper, will lead the program. Admission is free. Advance registration is not required, but the university will provide free garage parking passes to those who sign up by Monday at yopressclub.com.
