GSO presents ‘Home Alone and Holiday Hits’
The Greenville Symphony Orchestra will celebrate the season with “Home Alone and Holiday Hits.”
Joining the orchestra for the holiday concert will be the GSO Jazz Band, guest vocalists Emily Misch and Max Pivik, the SAY Children’s Chorus, directed by Julie Freeman Kerr, and the Shenango Valley Chorale, directed by Erich Lascek.
According to GSO Conductor Michael Gelfand, “This holiday program is chock full of music that our audience and orchestra will really enjoy. The program includes Christmas Festival Overture, ‘Greensleeves,’ the GSO Jazz Band playing ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’ and ‘Jingle Bell Rock,’ Festive Sounds of Hanukkah, ‘Waltz of the Flowers’ from ‘The Nutcracker,’ plus three songs from the holiday favorite ‘Home Alone.’ We will also have the ‘Bells of Christmas,’ an audience sing-along, and no holiday concert is complete without Leroy Anderson’s ‘Sleigh Ride.'”
In the past couple of weeks, Gelfand has been rehearsing with Misch and Pivik, by Zoom and in person when possible, plus both the SAY Chorus and the Chorale have been rehearsing on their own.
Misch, a soprano, has performed with Opera San Jose, the Annapolis Opera, the Metropolitan Opera and others. She will sing “Queen of the Night” from Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
Pivik will perform pieces from “Barber of Seville” and “Carmen,” which showcase his baritone voice.
The concert starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thiel College’s Passavant Center, 38 Packard Ave., Greenville, Pa.
Tickets are $20 in advance at www.thegreenvillesymphony.org and $25 at the door.
