‘Foreigner’ finds home at Trinity Playhouse

Stage Left Players will stage the comedy “The Foreigner” for a three-weekend run.

Larry Shue’s play tells the story of Charlie, a painfully shy Englishman seeking peace and quiet at a fishing lodge in rural Georgia. To avoid social interactions, his friend concocts a scheme: let the locals believe Charlie doesn’t understand English.

The plan works a little too well, as the lodge’s colorful residents begin revealing their deepest secrets and wildest schemes right in front of him — leading to hilarious misunderstandings and unexpected twists.

Shue also is the playwright of “The Nerd,” and both have been popular community theater choices since the 1980s.

Elsie Kibler directs the Stage Left production, and the cast includes Ryan Gillis, Eric Kibler, Patti L’Italien, Dominic Meyer, Connie Baer, Lydon Freeman and Aaron Newell.

“The Foreigner” will be staged at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Oct. 19 at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way, Lisbon. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students and senior citizens and are available online at stageleftplayers.org.

Starting at $3.23/week.
