Poets do First Wednesday reading

Lit Youngstown’s First Wednesday Reader Series will feature two Ohio poets.

Mary Quade of Madison is the author of “Guide to Native Beasts” (Cleveland State University Poetry Center) and “Local Extinctions” (Gold Wake) and the winner of the 2022 the Journal Non / Fiction Prize. Her latest book is “Zoo World: Essays,” published by The Ohio State University Press Mad Creek Books.

Steve Skovensky of Columbus earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, where he became acquainted with Major Ragain, Ted Lyons, Alice Cone and other poets of the region. His words reflect both the work he has done with people experiencing homelessness as well as the joy he has with his family.

The reading will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westside Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, in its Trophy Room, which is accessible only by stairs. An open mic will follow.

The event is sponsored by POP! Art Books Culture, and admission is free. For more information, go to
