JCC gallery features quilt exhibit
Quilts by Carol Ann Hart are on display at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown.
Hart earned a bachelor of science in education degree from Ohio University and a master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State University. During a teaching career that spanned more than 35 years, she used art in her English and special education classrooms, introducing students to another form of creative expression.
Now retired, Hart remains active in local and state teaching organizations, two quilting guilds and the American Sewing Guild, and enjoys volunteer work.
According to Hart, “I have always been an artist. From crayons and pencils to papier mache and clay, to oils, photography, yarn and beads, I have always been creating beauty.”
She sewed clothing as a teenager and a quilt sampler class in 1983 led to her love of textiles and design, and she considers quilting her passion and her destiny.
“Carol Ann Hart: A Quilting Journey” will be on display through Sept. 14 in the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Art Gallery at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane. Admission is free.
