YSU jazz combos perform Thursday
Jazz combos from Youngstown State University Jazz Studies Area will perform Thursday at Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater.
The concert will feature two jazz combos, under the direction of Kent Engelhardt and Nick Frank, as they present a program of jazz standards and modern compositions.
Engelhardt’s quintet will perform a set that includes Miles Davis’ iconic “Freddie Freeloader,” the Jerome Kern and Johnny Mercer classic, “Dearly Beloved” and Hiroshi Suzuki’s “Shrimp Dance,” arranged by YSU undergraduate student Carter Ulery.
The set list for Frank’s quartet includes Julian Robledo’s “Three O’Clock In The Morning,” Aaron White’s “Still With Us,” Kenny Garrett’s “Sounds of the Flying Pygmies” and the Brazilian favorite, “O Pato,” popularized by Joao Gilberto.
Admission to the 7:30 p.m. show is free. For more information, call 330-941-2307.
