Shoot for the stars and aim for the impossible

The other day, a few of the members of Dandelion-Inc and I decided that we were in dire need of getting together and doing something as a group that wasn’t about direct, measurable growth — either in business or personal development. Don’t get me wrong, growth is great, but sometimes we need a different kind of connection. The kind that doesn’t come from a workshop or a goal-setting session, but from simply being together. And what better way than to go celebrate another member who has a magnificent voice and talent — paired with her partner of many years — performing ...

Root beer floats and stop-and-go traffic

Who remembers A&W off Route 224? I’m about to get a little off-topic before I get into the heart of my nostalgia, but trust me — it’s worth the detour. I feel like I need to set the scene to help you understand how absolutely phenomenal A&W was in my childhood and early adolescence. In my mind, it holds a space right up there with Mill Creek Park. Yep, that important. A&W was more than just a place to grab a bite. It was a treat. It was an experience. I loved when my mom would pull into one of those spots with the old-school speaker boxes where we could order from the car like ...

Can we talk for just a moment about our inbox?

Can we just take a moment to talk about our inboxes? Like really talk. If you’re part of my generation — or older — you’ll remember that if someone wanted to send you something promotional, they had two choices: snail mail or knocking on your front door. And if they were really aggressive, they’d do both. We’d walk outside and spot a door hanger flapping in the wind — information we didn’t ask for, didn’t want and probably didn’t read. We’d roll our eyes, yank it down and toss it straight in the trash. That was the extent of our “unsolicited marketing.” One. ...

We had a lightbulb (and ceiling fan) moment

While I was away in Poland, my husband tackled one of the items that had been sitting on our “honey-do” list for far too long. He installed a new ceiling fan in our bedroom. Not just any fan — this one came with a light. Now, I know that might not sound like a big deal. But for us? It was. Our bedroom has never had a ceiling light. For nine years, we relied on our nightstand lamps (his and hers), a floor lamp tucked into the corner and whatever natural light trickled through the blinds. If I’m being generous, that setup gave us maybe 40% of the light a room actually needs. ...

Is traveling worth all the trouble that comes with it?

As you all know, I write from moments I’m in the thick of thoughts that bubble up from long-ago memories that choose to resurface at just the right — or wrong — time. This week’s piece? It comes to you from the comfort of my home, after what felt like a never-ending journey back from Poland. And not just any journey — a travel experience so chaotic, so layered in delays and detours, it begged the question: Is traveling still worth it? Let’s start at the beginning. My trip to Poland was daunting but meaningful. Leading and learning, pushing myself in ways I hadn’t before. ...

Just two more days until I’m back home

By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be home. No more countdowns, no more tallying hours and days in my head. I’ll be wrapped in that long-awaited hug from my husband, waking my boys up at 1:30 in the morning just so I can hold them, crying from that deep, full place in my chest where love lives. And yes — my dog will be smothered with the kind of cuddles only a mama who’s been gone too long can give. This is the last article I’ll be writing from Poland, and if I’m being honest, I’ve been mentally halfway on a plane since the moment I landed. This trip has been ...
