OSU Extension offers Spring Garden Workshop April 25

CANFIELD — Ohio State University Master Gardener Volunteers of Mahoning/Columbiana counties will host their annual Spring Garden Workshop 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 25 at the OSU Extension Office on South Broad Street.
This workshop provides new learning opportunities for all, ranging from new gardeners to long-timers with a keen interest to learn and improve. The theme of this workshop is “Fresh Ideas to Spruce Up Your Landscaping.”
The workshop includes knowledgeable keynote and capnote speakers, three breakout sessions with three choices each, an optional garden art make-and-take project, question and answer periods, handouts and access to OSU educators and master gardener volunteers.
Included will be the Plant & Pest Clinic table, giving you the opportunity to learn more about this highly valued Extension Office service, so bring your questions and be prepared to get excited about the 2026 gardening season.
The workshop promises a delicious hot buffet lunch and great refreshments all day that assure you will be well fed and entertained.
Everyone gets a “goody” bag just for attending. Before you leave, door prizes will be awarded to lucky participants, including succulent plants, pruners, garden art and more.
Registration opens at 9 a.m. and the workshop presentations begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. at the OSU Extension Office at 490 S. Broad St. in Canfield, with parking on premises. The office is across the street from the Canfield Fairgrounds. Reservations are limited and participants choose between optional sessions at the time of reservations. Make your reservation early for your best choice.
Our morning keynote speaker will be Pam Bennett, Master Gardener Volunteer Program Director and Extension Educator. Her topic will address “Easy Perennials and Annuals to Add Color to Your Landscape.” This is your opportunity to learn how to brighten your landscape with color and visual interest highlighting plant options and design tips.
The afternoon capnote speaker will be Paul Snyder, operations manager, Seacrest Arboretum. His topic will address “Top Trees and Shrubs for Northeast Ohio,” introducing noteworthy plant selections encouraging attendees to broaden their planting palettes by incorporating resilient, diverse and regionally adapted woody ornamentals.
