Active adults stay busy taking day trips

Senior Citizens Opportunity for Personal Endeavors sponsors one-,

two- and three-day bus trips and tours throughout the nation.

Our active adults stay busy touring Amish country, seeing great and epic shows at wonderful theatres, going on shopping trips, train rides and lake and river cruises, and visiting museums, historical locations and casinos.

SCOPE is proud to partner with tour operator Sharon Grover of Ridgeview Country Tours. You do not have to participate at SCOPE senior centers to take the trips as these are open to the public.

Trips such as cruises on the Lady Caroline on Lake Erie, Lake Chautauqua in New York or the Ohio River in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are quite popular.

You can choose to ride the rails of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad or the trains in Pennsylvania, with great scenic views, especially in the autumn with fall foliage. Plays and musicals in Lancaster, Pa., at the epic Sight and Sound Theatre and Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, as well the Ohio Star Theatre in Sugarcreek, are hugely popular.

Speaking of Sugarcreek, our Amish country stops there, as well as those in Geauga County, are also quite popular and, yes, we eat at wonderful mom-and-pop establishments or at private Amish homes.

Visits to historical sites, small towns and museums are on our list every year. Great food and shopping opportunities are some of our senior’s trip priorities and we provide you with the best in all states. Our four-day trip to Nashville last year for the Grand Ole Opry’s centennial birthday celebration was a big hit as none other than Carrie Underwood performed for our group.

In 2026, two longer trips to Dearborn, Michigan, and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, are already planned.

This is a great partnership between a nationally-accredited senior citizen service organization and one of the best providers of active adult trips. Ridgeview Country Tours handles the reservations and details of the bus trips.

To receive a 2026 tour brochure and to learn more about active adult trips for the public, call Grover at 440-693-4000 or visit any of the senior centers located in Bristol, Champion, Cortland, Howland, Hubbard, Newton Falls, Niles, Ravenna or Warren. You can also call 330-399-8846.

SCOPE is one of the few senior organizations which go above and beyond to provide active adults in their communities with helpful resources and opportunities to prevent social isolation and loneliness.

Starting at $3.23/week.
