Trumbull County officials are beginning to plan for life with a General Motors plant in Lordstown. GM announced this morning that there is no new car coming to Lordstown and that in March, employees would be laid off. DETROIT (AP) — General Motors will lay off 14,700 factory and white-collar workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure — including in Lordstown — as it restructures to cut costs and focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reduction includes 8,100 white-collar workers, some of whom will take buyouts and others who will be laid off. LORDSTOWN - Workers inside the General Motors Lordstown plant were told this morning the local plant will be closing early next year, according to a worker who asked not to be identified. Word came on the heels of an announcement that GM would be closing a Canadian plant, which would be part of a much broader, company-wide restructuring to be announced as early as today. Wed. 4:55 p.m. One of Raymond Fifes killers dies in prison

GRAFTON -- Timothy Combs, one of the men convicted in the September 1985 slaying of 12-year-old Raymond Fife, has died in prison, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. Combs, 50, died at the Grafton Correctional Institute on Friday. A cause of death has not been released. Combs was 17 when Fife was beaten, sexually tortured, strangled with his underwear, set afire and left for dead. Combs and Danny Lee Hill, who was 18 at the time, attacked Raymond while he was riding his bike to a Boy Scout meeting. Hill is on death row, but has appealed the sentence ...

Update: Tues. 6:10 p.m.: Power out for 21 precincts, but voting continues

WARREN - Power at 21 voting precinct locations in Trumbull County was lost this afternoon, but voting continues with the use of generators and paper ballots, said Stephanie Penrose, executive director of the Trumbull County Board of Elections. Generators have been placed in five of the locations, and two more generators are on their way, Penrose said.
