Mon. 10 a.m.: Workers told that General Motors Lordstown to close in March
LORDSTOWN – Workers inside the General Motors Lordstown plant were told this morning the local plant will be closing early next year, according to a worker who asked not to be identified.
Word came on the heels of an announcement that GM would be closing a Canadian plant, which would be part of a much broader, company-wide restructuring to be announced as early as today.
A person briefed on the matter told The Associated Press that the plant being shuttered in Canada is just the beginning as GM prepares for the next economic downturn, shifting trade agreements under the Trump administration, and potential tariffs on imported automobiles.
This is a developing story. For more, check back here at www.tribtoday.com or read Tuesday’s Tribune Chronicle.
