Penguins nab Horizon League honors

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State’s basketball programs took home plenty of Horizon League honors Monday. Lilly Ritz and Megan Callahan earned All-Horizon League First and Third Team honors, respectively, while on the men’s side, Dwayne Cohill was selected to the First Team and Adrian Nelson and Brandon Rush each were named to the Third Team. John Lovelace Jr. was selected to the All-Freshman team. Also, YSU men’s basketball coach Jerrod Calhoun was named the 2022-23 Horizon League Coach of the Year.

The Youngstown State women’s basketball team suffered its third straight loss Tuesday, falling to IUPUI 87-80 on the road. The Penguins (18-10, 12-7 Horizon League) suffered a similar slump at the beginning of the season when they lost three straight road games against Penn State, Akron and Western Michigan.
