YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State women’s basketball team will visit West Virginia in November, according to a game contract obtained through a public records request.
That was one of nine contracts returned to the Tribune Chronicle and Vindicator. Six were women’s contracts, three were men’s.
The Penguins will face the Mountaineers at the WVU Coliseum on Nov. 19 and will receive $20,000. YSU is 8-11 all-time against West Virginia, according to YSU’s record book.
YSU’s women’s team will host Xavier on Nov. 8, beginning a two-year home-and-home series with the Musketeers. The teams last met in 2004 and each enters at 3-3 in the overall series.
The women will also host Western Michigan on Nov. 17 to cap a home-and-home. The Penguins fell to WMU last year, 62-54, and are 3-6 all-time against the Broncos.
In December, YSU will host Akron on Dec. 6. The Zips defeated YSU 61-44 last year in Akron, but YSU is 40-20 in the series.
On Dec. 9, the Penguins make a return trip to cap a home-and-home with St. Francis (PA), which YSU defeated 81-41 at the Beeghly Center last year. YSU is 5-3 against the Red Flash.
Finally, on Dec. 16, the Penguins will visit Western New York to take on St. Bonaventure in the front end of a home-and-home series. It will be the first meeting between the two programs.
On the men’s side, three contracts were returned.
Youngstown State will visit Michigan on Nov. 10 and receive $90,000 for the game. The Penguins are 0-5 all-time against the Wolverines, and last met in the 2015-16 season.
The other two contracts returned are part of Youngstown State’s home multi-team event, which takes place Nov. 17-19. The Penguins begin that three-day event against Utah Tech on Nov. 17 and conclude it Nov. 19 against Niagara. Utah Tech and Niagara will face each other Nov. 18.
Youngstown State has never faced Utah Tech and is 7-8 against Niagara, which also visited Beeghly for the 2021-22 MTE and defeated YSU 58-53.
