Niles man says Subway incident violated civil rights

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who filed a federal lawsuit against Subway said he left the restaurant without eating when a woman went on a racially slanted tirade against him in a Niles restaurant and store employees did not intervene, the complaint states. WARREN — Prosecutors dropped charges but added new ones in connection to the political corruption and illegal gambling case surrounding the former mayor of Niles — a case that was widened Aug. 1 to include the city’s former auditor, who is accused of running his tax preparation business on city equipment. Visitors toured the Ward-Thomas House, a 14-room Victorian mansion at 503 Brown St., and other displays on the grounds. NILES — Freshman starting this school year at Niles McKinley High School will have their own section of the school for their core classes as a new Freshman Dragon Academy has been established. Niles McKinley High School Principal Tracie Parry said the freshman year is a “make it or break it year” for students.
