Packard premieres piece for band, accordion

Normally it takes a rainstorm to move the W.D. Packard Concert Band indoors during the summer. This Sunday it wasn’t weather, but a world premiere that dictated the move. The band will premiere “Terra Incognita,” a new composition for accordion and wind band written by composer Stan Bann and featuring Joseph Natoli of Howland on accordion. “Because of the nature of the piece, I just felt we should play it inside,” said Thomas Groth, executive director of the band. “It’s really hard outside to get a good sound, and this is a major work. The Butler Institute of American Art will present a panel discussion on American LGBTQ+ artists from the 18th Century to the present on June 25. Over the past 250 years of America’s existence, there have been varying waves of acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community with artists often on the frontlines and pushing for their freedom of expression even when faced with resistance. Historical society offers archaeology camp The Trumbull County Historical Society will offer an Archaeology Summer Camp for children ages 8 to 14. Campers will work alongside real archaeologists to identify artifacts, use excavation tools and interpret clues left behind by the people who lived here long ago.
