Elections panel nixes petitions

WARREN – Five people who filed to run for Democratic and Republican central committee seats had their nominating petitions rejected Friday by the Trumbull County Board of Elections and won’t appear on the May 6 primary election ballot.

The petition of Republican Susanne Kacsandi in Warren’s precinct 2G was received by the elections board two days after the Feb. 5 filing deadline.

Another Republican filer, Ellen Vossler, was rejected because she voted a Democratic ballot in the 2012 primary election. Vossler had filed to run for central committee in Bloomfield.

”Because these people are being elected, they can’t vote the opposite party in the last two years,” said elections board Director Kelly Pallante. ”This is different from being nominated.”

On the Democratic side, Joseph Scirocco Jr., who filed in Mesopotamia precinct A, did not list the date of the primary election on his petition.

Daniel Faustino, Brookfield precinct H, had insufficient signatures – he submitted the five required, but one person voted Republican in 2012, and Edward Freisen, in Newton Falls precinct 1A, submitted a petition that states nine signatures were witnessed. Freisen has 10 signatures on the petition.
