AUSTINTOWN – A man was shot this morning while sitting in his car in the Walmart parking lot on Mahoning Avenue here, according to police.

Austintown Township police Chief Bob Gavalier said the man was shot in the stomach, but his injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening. The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The shooting occurred just before 8 a.m. at the Walmart located at 6001 Mahoning Ave. No arrests have been made, Gavalier said.

The chief said the victim’s name isn’t being released until family is notified. He said the shooting doesn’t appear to be a random act and more information may be available later today.
