At just 15, Jane Faulk is proving that ambition and leadership know no age limit.
The Warren G. Harding High School sophomore has been named one of the Tribune Chronicle’s Twenty Under 20 honorees for her exceptional academic achievements, leadership skills and dedication to her community. The program is co-sponsored by Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley and AVI Foodsystems.
Faulk’s accomplishments are as varied as they are impressive. She maintains a 4.32 weighted GPA while juggling a challenging course load that includes AP African American History, AP U.S. History, and college-level personal finance. Her intellectual curiosity and commitment to excellence have made her a standout among her peers. Teachers and classmates alike praise her for elevating classroom discussions with unique perspectives and fostering collaboration.
“It’s not just about getting the grades,” Faulk said. “I push myself to really understand and connect with what I’m learning, and I try to encourage my classmates to challenge themselves too.”
Outside the classroom, she shines just as brightly. A talented athlete, she serves as captain of her Junior Olympics volleyball team, where she leads by example, motivating teammates to persevere through challenges. Faulk balances her time on the court with her role as a first-chair trumpet player in the school’s concert and marching bands, where she mentors underclassmen and works tirelessly to perfect her section’s performance.
Leadership and service extend into Faulk’s extracurricular activities. As a member of the Key Club, she has spearheaded various community projects, including decorating lockers with inspirational messages, organizing dances for students in special education programs, and volunteering for events like the Turkey Trot. Her commitment to service also extends to her church, where she is an active member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, volunteering during the holidays and participating in youth group initiatives.
“I’ve always wanted to give back to my community,” Faulk said. “Growing up in Warren, I’ve seen the struggles people face, and I feel it’s my responsibility to help where I can.”
Despite her packed schedule, Faulk remains grounded and inspired by her family. Her older siblings, both high achievers in academics and sports, have set an example of balancing hard work and dedication. Faulk credits them with motivating her to push through challenges and excel in her endeavors.
Looking ahead, Faulk has her sights set on a potential career in engineering. She hopes to use her education and skills to continue giving back, whether in Warren or beyond.
“I’m inspired by the idea of making a tangible difference, whether it’s through building something meaningful or continuing to serve my community,” she said.
Faulk’s accolades, including her ability to manage rigorous academics, athletics, and service projects, make her an exemplary role model. Her story is one of perseverance, leadership, and a deep commitment to uplifting those around her.
