MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Senior Michael Akuchie set the Youngstown State Division I single-game rebounding record with 24 and posted his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points as the Penguins defeated Robert Morris in overtime, 70-66, at the UPMC Events Center on Saturday.
Junior Darius Quisenberry led the Penguins (10-10 overall, 6-10 Horizon League) with 21 points, while seniors Naz Bohannon and Garrett Covington each had 15 points.
Leading the Colonials (3-11, 2-9) was AJ Bramah with 17 points and 16 rebounds while Trayden Williams added 16 points.
For the second consecutive night, the Colonials hit a basket at the end of regulation to force overtime. This time, RMU's Cameron Wilbon made a floating jump shot with 1.1 seconds remaining to tie the game at 58-58. The Penguins, who held a 42-31 lead early in the second half, had missed three consectutive free throws leading up to Wilbon's game-tying shot.
In the extra frame, the Colonials twice led by two, 60-58 and 62-60, before the Penguins scored six straight points to go up 66-62 with 38 seconds left. RMU cut got within two twice more but Quisenberry and Covington each made a pair of free throws to seal the win.
Robert Morris used an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game, 52-50, with 4:15 remaining in the second half.
Youngstown State hosts Rochester (Mich.), on Monday. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at the Beeghly Center.
