Briggs sends Bristol to win over Badger

BRISTOLVILLE -- It was senior night for the Bristol Panthers, but junior Logan Briggs won the day, scoring three goals in a 4-0 victory for Bristol over league rival Badger.
"I think we came into the game ready to go," Panthers coach Cory Schrecengost said. "We had a good week. We've only lost one game here at home against a really well-coached Kennedy team, so we've been doing well. We've been playing well. We've been scoring goals. A little slow against Lordstown the other day, but we came in and knew we had to come out quick and take it to them fast and be ready to go."
Briggs got his first of three midway through the first half, in a two-on-one alongside Lawrence Workman. Workman earned the team's second goal at the midway point of the second half, assisted by sophomore Jaxon Shaffer.
The Panthers (9-3-1, 6-1 NAC) have won six games in a row, three of which were shutouts. The team's last loss was a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Badger earlier in the month.
"We were just moving some people around," Schrecengost said of the difference in the rematch. "I moved some forwards back, I moved my defense back, we marked up a little bit. We dropped our defense back to control their speed more, and I think that's what made the game."
Gus Workman, Ethan Kimak and Jake Clisby make up Bristol's senior class this year. The three have been with Schrecengost since the beginning of his tenure and have left a large impact on the program.
"I've had them all four years, and they've always given everything they had," Schrecengost said. "Very very special boys. I wish I could have these guys never leave. At practice every day, they give 110%, they know what they're doing. They're just easy to coach. They're just great boys, and I'm gonna be sad to see them leave, but I'm happy for them. We've just got to keep finishing the season now."
The next step of the journey for Bristol is on Thursday at Grand Valley. Then on Tuesday, they travel to Pymatuning Valley, in a game that could very well decide the league.
"We just have to keep pushing forward, not let up and just keep winning these games that are important at the end of the year," Schrecengost said.
It's been a rocky road for Badger (4-7-2, 3-3-1 NAC), which lost its fifth-straight on Tuesday. It will look to reset before Thursday's game in Columbiana County against Crestview.
"Just resetting into figuring who we actually are instead of trying to get pulled into different games, just playing the way that we know how to," Braves coach Scott Smith said. "Everything's here. It's just trying to execute it and trying to get back to it, and going back to the fundamentals. ... We get pulled into different games instead of just focusing on who we are. As soon as we remember our identity, we'll be fine."
