Michael Weymer resigned as Mathews boys basketball head coach following an arrest on the charge of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI), according to WFMJ 21.
Additionally, the Mathews "superintendent report shows the school found 94 allegations against Weymer were substantiated," including "co-mingling public and/or school-related funds with personal funds and/or checking accounts" and failing to "maintain integrity with students, colleagues, parents, families, the community, and/or business when accepting gifts, gratuities, and/or favors."
Weymer, whose resignation was unanimously accepted during the July15 Mathews Board of Education Meeting, denied the allegations.
"I deny that I ever co-mingled any sort of funds [that] I ever took any money. None of that ever happened," Weymer told WFMJ. "When I went to the hearing they never presented any evidence that these things had happened other than it being a bullet point on a paper...they didn't offer any sort of truth and I deny all of those claims. I deny that I ever took a single dime.
He also said it was "absolutely untrue" that he had taken a gift.
Weymer coached the Mustangs for nine seasons, during which he led them to an 137-78 record and a district championship in 2022.
