SOFTBALL
DIVISION I PLAYOFFS
Austintown Fitch 19, Canton McKinley 0 – Fitch (23-0) began their chase for a third state championship in four years with a dominant performance over Canton McKinley. Mila Hamley pitched a perfect five inning game, striking out 12. Abby Toth led the offense with two home runs and two doubles, totaling eight RBIs. Kylie Folkwein added two hits and two RBIs and Seneca Coated had a triple, single and an RBI. Miauna Jorge also homered for the Falcons, driving in two runs.
DIVISION IV PLAYOFFS
Lakeview 11, Salem 0 – Mackenzie Stowe belted a grand slam in the third inning to lead Lakeview. Isabella Isenberg struck out 10 for the Bulldogs. Isenberg also had a hit and drove in two runs. Ava Neilan led Lakeview with three hits and drove in a run and the duo of Jianna Shaker and Sophia Neilan added a hit and two RBIs each.
DIVISION V PLAYOFFS
Champion 11, Wickliffe 1 – Taylor Rouan and Maddie Sylvester had two hits each for Champion, with each homering. Jonna Strock had three hits to lead the Flashes and Carly Dyer was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts. Sylvester drove in two runs and Sami Munroe had a hit and two RBIs. Ava Sylvester and Haley Bungard also had two hits each and Sylvester drove in two runs.
South Range 7, Canton South 1 – C. Crepage struck out 13 to help South Range advance. K. Brogan had two hits, including a triple and drove in three runs. D. Saunier had a home run and drove in a run for Canton South.
Poland 9, Keystone LaGrange 0 – Cassie Blanch drove in four runs with two hits, including a double to lead Poland. Madison Medvec had two hits and two RBIs and Leanna Boccieri added two Hits and an RBI with a double for the Bulldogs, as did Avery Jakubovic. Emma Boccieri and Sydney Bullick added two hits each. Anna Wright, Tatum Holzhauer and Rylan Barret had a hit each for LaGrange.
Cardinal Mooney 10, Southeast 3 – Lexi McKinstry launched a three-run home run in the first innings, setting the tone for Mooney’s offense early. McKinstry added another hit and was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals, striking out five. Taylor Watts added two hits and two RBIs and Grace Rinaldi and Justice Paris had a pair of hits each.
DIVISION VI PLAYOFFS
LaBrae 4, Mapleton 1 – Riley Rowe struck out nine and had a home run and an RBI to help LaBrae advance. Isabella Michael, Mariah Jones and Makenzie Lichty added two hits each for the Vikings. P. Frye doubled and drove in a run for Mapleton.
DIVISION VII PLAYOFFS
Maplewood 11, Rittman 1 – Claire Urchek drove in four runs with three hits, including a double for Maplewood. Lexi Yannucci pitched four innings and struck out six for the Rockets. Addison Marker struck out the side in the fifth inning to close the game for Maplewood and Samantha Krieg had a hit and an RBI.
Chalker 8, Cardinal 3 – Abby Grimm doubled, with three hits in total and drove in a pair of runs for Chalker. Bailey Ann Bussey drove in four more runs and had two hits for the Wildcats. Tatum Hudak struck out eight in a complete game outing. Emily Pleva had two hits for Cardinal.
BASEBALL
LaBrae 3, Lakeview 2 – Logan Brunstetter powered LaBrae with a hit and two RBIs. Austin Rowe added a pair of hits and Jacob Simpson added a hit and an RBI for the Vikings. Brandon Toot doubled and drove in a run for Lakeview. Toot added another hit and Brandon Cash had a home run for the Bulldogs. Blake Swinning struck out five for the Bulldogs.
Poland 2, Howland 1 – Grady Pitzulo struck out seven, picking up the win for Poland in a tight contest that came down to the final at bat. Zach Marantis led the Bulldogs with two hits. Terri Werner and Bode Biggin had two hits each for Howland.
Brookfield 11, Badger 4 – Devin Reardon had three hits to lead Brookfield. Reardon also drove in a run and Judah Dejoy had two hits and an RBI for the Warriors. Blake Coleman and Josh Rankin added two hits and two RBIs each and Pete O’Dell had a hit and two RBIs. Joe Hook drove in a pair of runs. For Badger, Michael Waybright had two hits and two RBIs and James Walker drove in a run and had two hits.
Newton Falls 3, Maplewood 0 – Zayne Shelton had two hits to lead Newton Falls. Leland Vargo added a hit and Michael Bennett drove in a run for the Tigers.
Newton Falls 5, Maplewood 4 – Leland Vargo struck out seven in the second half of the doubleheader, securing the sweep for Newton Falls. Michael Bennett had a hit and two RBIsI to lead the Tigers offense and Jake Dowling had a hit and an RBI. Tyson Webster had two hits and an RBI and Luke Shipman added a hit and an RBI for Maplewood.
Warren JFK 10, Jackson-Milton 0 – Andrew LaPolla drove in three runs and singled to lead JFK. Landon Snyder drove in three runs, while Lucas Mealy and Trevin Rinck had two hits and an RBI each. LaPolla was also the starting pitcher, striking out four. Jason Andre added to the Eagles night with a hit and an RBI.
Mathews 9, Chalker 8 – Jake Petak had five hits and drove in three runs for Mathews. Jared Pegg drove in two runs and Colton Kish added a double for the Mustangs. Zach Pack hit a grand slam for Chalker.
