By Staff report 2 min read

More than 100 area wrestlers clinched a spot in a district tournament with a top-four placing at the various sectionals this past weekend. Of those qualifiers, 21 won a sectional title.

Across seven different sectional events, Austintown Fitch's Evan Protopapa, Stephen Medved, Reghan Koch and Yelieishka Perez-Navedo, Canfield's Gabe Miller, Hubbard's Markel Hackwelder, West Branch's Beau Nezbeth, Gavin Hang and Grace Bates, Grand Valley's Joe Montgomery, Pymatuning Valley's Bennett Claypoole, South Range's Ralph Stellato and Tyson Seesholtz, Western Reserve's Amelia Poracky, Brookfield's Isabella Williams, East Palestine's McKenna Paperella, Springfield's Abigale Miller, Poland's Ella Thomas and Salem's Delaney Callahan, Paige Menough and Amber Le Bourdais captured championships over the weekend and, in effect, became one of the top seeds at their respective district tournaments.

Boys districts will take place March 6 and 7. In Division I, Austintown Fitch will be at Wadsworth, and Boardman will compete at Perrysburg. Division II teams Canfield, Chaney, Howland, Hubbard, Salem and West Branch will be at Kenston. The Division III teams -- Brookfield, Columbiana, East Palestine, Garfield, Girard, Grand Valley, Jackson-Milton, Lakeview, Leetonia, Liberty, Mineral Ridge, Pymatuning Valley and South Range -- will be in Independence.

All area girls qualifiers will compete at the district tournament in Mentor on March 8.
