BOYS BASKETBALL

Champion 74, Garfield 65 – Marky Nolan’s 31-point effort pushed the Golden Flashes over the top in a league win over Garfield. Nolan was aided by Braylen Brahaam who added 19. Devin Bates led the G-Men with 18 points with Brandyn Bogucki scoring 14 and Nate Grabowski added 10.

Newton Falls 61, LaBrae 45 – The Tigers earned a big league win on Thursday, taking down LaBrae. Phil Davis led Newton Falls with 16 points and Leland Vargo added 15. Austin Rowe scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Vikings.

Brookfield 54, Liberty 45 – Blake Hammond paced the Warriors on Thursday in a league win over Liberty. Hammond scored 12 to lead Brookfield. Rob Flynn added 11. Liberty was led by a 12-point outing from Jamari Delegawl.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Poland 47, Niles 45 – A late rally from the Red Dragons, scoring 23 points in the final quarter, wasn’t enough to push Niles past league rival Poland. Leeona Boccieri led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points and Briella Rowe scored 13. Kherington Stanford scored a game-high 19 points. Ava Ferri added 14.

Mineral Ridge 56, Sebring 19 – Mineral Ridge set the tone early and carried it to a big win over the Trojans. Sullivan Sandy finished with a game-high 29 points, helping control pace for the Rams. Reagan Wynn led Sebring with 9 points.

South Range 41, Struthers 36 – Sophia Lucente led the Raiders with 16 points in a league victory over Struthers. Lucente was one of four scorers for South Range, three of whom reached double figures. Gwen Lowry scored 11 and Taylor Dado scored 10. The Wildcats’ top scorers shared the same numbers. Natalie Wolikow paced Struthers with 11 and Gianna Martin added 10.

Canfield 64, Boardman 24 – The Cardinals move to 11-2 on the season after a big win over Boardman. Jenna Havrilla led the way for Canfield with 12 points. Carly Fleming and Noelle Shali each scored 10 points. Boardman was led by Maddy Slevin who scored nine.

Girard 65, Lakeview 58 – Janaya Riley led Girard with 19 points in an important league win over Lakeview on Thursday. Caylee Wilkes followed close behind with 14 points, Ally Gassman had 12, and Brooke Perry added 11. Lakeview was led by Mackenzie Stowe with 20 points. Kalyssa Werner tacked on 11.

Hubbard 50, Youngstown East 22 – Three Eagles scored in double figures to help Hubbard put away Youngstown East. Chloe Cicero’s 17-point effort paced Hubbard with Layla Songer (12) and Claire Murphy (10) following close behind. Dom Bratton led the Golden Bears with 10.

Grand Valley 47, Chalker 42 – Riley Rowland led Grand Valley with 16 points in a victory over Chalker. Bre Rowland and Cloe Turk each scored 10. Both Tatum Hudak and Abby Grimm each scored 11 points to lead the Wildcats.

Lisbon 51, Leetonia 16 – Halle Lewis and Addison Grey each scored six points for Leetonia in a loss to Lisbon.

From Wednesday

Ursuline 65, Cardinal Mooney 32 — The Fighting Irish dominated the first quarter, taking a 23-4 lead. Kennedy Carpenter scored nine of her game-high 18 points in the opening frame for Ursuline as she finished with 14 points, five assists and three blocks. Kenyah Gill added 14 points for Ursuline. Cassidy Carlson led the Cardinals with 14 points.

Howland fell to Louisville 51-21. Jacob Jones Darling (106) earned a win by forfeit, Brayden Cortese (120) picked up a 5-4 decision and Eddie Morrison (156) and Aidan Whittenberger (190) both won by pinfall.
