CANFIELD -- The Canfield Local Schools Board of Education named Joseph Ignazio Jr. as its next varsity football coach.
Ignazio replaces Mike Pavlansky, who stepped down in December after a 23-year stint which included a state championship in 2022.
"Coach Ignazio will ensure continuity of the football program," Canfield athletic director Greg Cooper said in a press release Wednesday. "His knowledge of the players and the system will be invaluable as we continue to strive for success."
Ignazio, whose appointment takes effect immediately, takes over after having previously served as an assistant with the Cardinals. He also had an eight-year stint as head coach at Boardman.
In Canfield's press release, superintendent Joseph Knoll added, "Coach Ignazio checks all the boxes as the right fit for the position. With his educational background, coaching experience with the Canfield program and years serving as a head football coach, we believe he will lead our football program to new heights."
