YOUNGSTOWN -- For the first time in program history, the Youngstown State women's basketball team has been selected No. 1 in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, which polled all head coaches.
YSU received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes. Green Bay, which was slated second, received two, and Cleveland State, slated third, received one.
The full poll was as follows: Youngstown State, Green Bay, Cleveland State, Northern Kentucky, Milwaukee, IUPUI, Oakland, Purdue Fort Wayne, Robert Morris, Wright State and Detroit Mercy.
Additionally, YSU forward Lilly Ritz was selected to the Preseason All-League First Team. She averaged 16.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game a season ago.
Cleveland State's Destiny Leo was tabbed Preseason Player of the Year.
The All-Horizon League Preseason First Team included Leo, Ritz, Hailey Oskey (Green Bay), Megan Walstad (Milwaukee) and Lindsey Duvall (Northern Kentucky).
The Second Team was: Bailey Butler (Green Bay), Rachel Kent (IUPUI), Ivy Turner (Northern Kentucky), Breanne Beatty (Oakland) and Shayla Sellers (Purdue Fort Wayne).
YSU begins its season Nov. 7 against Wofford.
